  • Bonnie Cullen, B.Sc. Computer Science, Diploma‚Äôs in Web Design, Marketing & Digital Marketing, Certificate in Web Technologies, Graphic Design, etc. etc. etc.

I'm the owner and operator of I Luv Web and from the very long list of education behind my name you might of guessed I’m a permanent student and there’s no end in sight.

I started working in Web Design way back in 1997 when the Internet was just finding its feet.  At the time I was working for Air Academy Federal Credit Union in their IT Department where I soon started helping with the development of their first in-house website using HTML, CSS and Javascript.  From that point on I was hooked, I found the web combined two things I enjoyed the most – design and computing.

Soon after leaving the Credit Union I finished my Associates in Computer Science and left the USA to move to Dublin Ireland to explore the world. I quickly landed a job as a Webmaster at National College of Ireland (NCI) in their IT Dept. The first year I was with the College I completed a Diploma in Web Design with Dorset College and then a couple years later went on to complete my BSc. In Computing at NCI part-time in the evenings.

While working with the college the Internet started to evolve and it soon became an integral part of the college’s marketing plan. I was moved over to the Marketing department where I got to work with a great bunch of people and soon my role included Graphic Design for our digital campaigns, SEO, Google Adwords, Social Media and tracking the website analytics.  While working for the Marketing department I decided it was important to learn more about that area and to make sure I kept up to date with the latest in web technologies so I completed a fast-track Diploma in Marketing, a Cert in Web Technologies and then a Diploma in Digital Marketing (yes, that’s right I’m a geek and I never stop).

As you might of guessed I’m never one to sit around during my spare time so in 2009 I set up I Luv Web as a part-time business venture and I started getting into photography. In 2010 I joined the Dublin Camera Club and became a council member soon after that my workplace found out about my new photography skills which I used to help provide photographs for the college website and advertising.

In 2011 I started working full-time for myself and soon after my husband and I decided it was time to set out for uncharted territory and move to Canada. We arrived in Calgary on October 2012 and in a few months I started working for a small corporate B2B company selling to the Oil & Gas industry.  While working with the new company I picked up a few new skills and started doing video editing and print side of graphic design.

2016 was a tough year for many but it seemed like the right time to start up my business again in Calgary.  I felt my abilities and passion to help others was a perfect combination to work with small business owners that where starting up and needed logos, branding and a website or companies that needed to update their site to a modern responsive design and needed to learn more about social media, SEO and digital marketing options to help them compete in a tough market.

When I'm not designing and working with companies I'm taking college courses (once again) at ACAD, behind the camera or spending time with my husband, our new found friends and our dog Nita.
